Zen meditation question?I tried it today after doing some reading,i sat and let my thoughts do as they may,is?

this the correct interpretation of zen meditation.I was researching it on wikipedia, and found this technique to be good.
As they say buddha is neither good or bad.And Not to try and seek budha.Rather look inward and allow your thoughts to take their natural patterns. And along with breathing, eyes closed for the recommended 5 mins daily,i went for 10mins in my desk chair. And I enjoyed it.
Anyway if you have any tips for me to improve my meditation,i think doing it regularily is important.
Please advise any other information to finding more of the light and looking through the buddha eye of Nirvana if that is possible or trying to emmulate that.I am new to this so excuse if i got something wrong.
Regards and thankyou.
any good zen sites please tell me too.
i found http://dailyzen.com
which is good and wikipedia search zen

Does anyone know what the poem ''Ode to the Chair'' by Pablo Neruda means?

Does anyone know what the poem ''Ode to the Chair'' by Pablo Neruda means?

I want an interpretation of itt because I read it off his book and I dont understand what it means..can anyone help me??

And heres the poem...

One chair, alone in the jungle In the vines' tight grip a sacred tree groans. Other vines spiral skyward, bloodspattered creatures howl deep within the shadows, giant leaves drop from the sky. A snake shakes the dry rattles on its tail, a bird flashes through the foliage like an arrow aimed at a flag while the branches shoulder their violins. Squatting on their flowers, insects pray without stirring. Our feet sink in the black weeds of the jungle sea, in clouds fallen from the forest canopy, and all I ask for the foreigner, for the despairing scout, is a seat in the sitting-tree, a throne of unkempt velvet, the plush of an overstuffed chair torn up by the snaking vines--yes: for the man who goes on foot a chair the embraces everything, the sound ground and supreme dignity of repose!
Get behind me, thirsty tigers and swarms of bloodsucking flies--behind me, black morass of ghostly fronds, greasy waters, leaves the color of rust, deathless snakes. Bring me a chair in the midst of thunder, a chair for me and for everyone not only to relieve an exhausted body but for every purpose adn for ever person, for squandered strength and for meditation. War is as vast as the shadowy jungle. A single chair is the first sign of peace.

Only meditation on Photo of Gurudev Siyag can change your life ??http://the-comforter.org/How_to_Meditate.html?

Only meditation on Photo of Gurudev Siyag can change your life ??http://the-comforter.org/How_to_Meditate.html?

How to meditate (Very simple method of meditation )

Kindly find the Photograph from web http://the-comforter.org/How_to_Meditate.html

sit in comfortable position .You can sit cross-legged on the floor, lie down, sit on a chair / couch etc., to meditate.
Look at Gurudev's picture for a minute or two until you can remember the image.
Then close your eyes and pray / say silently to Gurudev, “Help me meditate for 15 minutes.” You can choose a time-limit according to your convenience, for eg., 5 / 10 /12 /… minutes.
Then, with your eyes still closed, think of Gurudev's image at the place between your eyebrows (also known as the third eye). This means that you have to try to imagine Gurudev’s picture in your mind.
While thinking of the image, repeat silently (Chant) for 15 minutes the secret divine mantra given by Guru Siyag.
If you have not been initiated by Guru Siyag, silently chant the name of any divine or spiritual entity you believe in such as Gurudev, Krishna, Jesus, Eloheim, Allah, Holy Father, Om, Love, Truth, Kundalini, Energy, Peace etc.
During meditation, you may experience certain automatic yogic postures or movement of your limbs. Swaying, nodding of head, rapid movement of head from left-to-right or vise versa, inflating or deflating of belly, clapping, grunting, moaning or laughing can happen in many cases. Do not panic or worry. These actions, happen involuntarily, are ordained by divine force, and they are needed for your internal cleansing and readying you for further progress.
You may also experience vibrations, see bright lights, colors or even have visions or revelations of the past and future events. These are indications that you are progressing well on the spiritual path.
However, if you do not experience any yogic postures or see visions, it does not mean that are not making progress. In all probability, the divine force awakened in you has perhaps decided that you don’t need these experiences,
You will notice that your meditation will come to an end automatically exactly when you reach the time limit you had set mentally prior to starting meditation.

Teaching Simple Meditation to Beginners: Is this good or...?

Teaching Simple Meditation to Beginners: Is this good or...?

I'm looking for a good article for beginners to learn about what meditation is and to get started meditating. Does this do the trick? Do you know of a better one? Thanks so much :)

How To Meditate:

Breathing Meditations:

Generally, the purpose of breathing meditation is to calm the mind and develop inner peace. We can use breathing meditations alone or as a preliminary practice to reduce our distractions before engaging in a Lamrim meditation

A Simple Breathing Meditation:

The first stage of meditation is to stop distractions and make our mind clearer and more lucid. This can be accomplished by practising a simple breathing meditation. We choose a quiet place to meditate and sit in a comfortable position. We can sit in the traditional cross-legged posture or in any other position that is comfortable. If we wish, we can sit in a chair. The most important thing is to keep our back straight to prevent our mind from becoming sluggish or sleepy.

We sit with our eyes partially closed and turn our attention to our breathing. We breathe naturally, preferably through the nostrils, without attempting to control our breath, and we try to become aware of the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves the nostrils. This sensation is our object of meditation. We should try to concentrate on it to the exclusion of everything else.

At first, our mind will be very busy, and we might even feel that the meditation is making our mind busier; but in reality we are just becoming more aware of how busy our mind actually is. There will be a great temptation to follow the different thoughts as they arise, but we should resist this and remain focused single-pointedly on the sensation of the breath. If we discover that our mind has wandered and is following our thoughts, we should immediately return it to the breath. We should repeat this as many times as necessary until the mind settles on the breath.

Benefits of Meditation:

If we practise patiently in this way, gradually our distracting thoughts will subside and we will experience a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Our mind will feel lucid and spacious and we will feel refreshed. When the sea is rough, sediment is churned up and the water becomes murky, but when the wind dies down the mud gradually settles and the water becomes clear. In a similar way, when the otherwise incessant flow of our distracting thoughts is calmed through concentrating on the breath, our mind becomes unusually lucid and clear. We should stay with this state of mental calm for a while.

Even though breathing meditation is only a preliminary stage of meditation, it can be quite powerful. We can see from this practice that it is possible to experience inner peace and contentment just by controlling the mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions.

When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within. This feeling of contentment and well-being helps us to cope with the busyness and difficulties of daily life. So much of the stress and tension we normally experience comes from our mind, and many of the problems we experience, including ill health, are caused or aggravated by this stress. Just by doing breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes each day, we will be able to reduce this stress. We will experience a calm, spacious feeling in the mind, and many of our usual problems will fall away. Difficult situations will become easier to deal with, we will naturally feel warm and well disposed towards other people, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.

So can I do meditation sitting on a chair ...I have been shown a posture how to do it. ?? As long as I keep my back straight & I am being able to concentrate I hope its OK. What (object or whatever) do u people concentrate on while doing meditation & also do u keep ur eyes open or slightly closed ? I am asking the slightly advanced people in meditation.
